Launched in May 2005, “We are the Turks” site aims to publish profiles of Turkish origin people with distinctive achievements from all walks of life, who live in various parts of the world.

There are already many web sites in Turkish with similar theme, however, none in foreign languages. In order to serve non-Turkish speakers, we chose English, since it’s a universal language. Most of the biographies are retrieved from existing websites on the internet. We also publish biographies sent in to us, as long as the text is already in English, since we do this on a voluntary basis and do not have time to translate texts.

The site is a run by Sema Karaoğlu, founder of Daughters of Ataturk, and Meltem Birkegren, owner and editor of Turkish Digest.
