Cumhur Gökova - the founder of IYT Turkey school

Cumhur(Jim) Gökova is the founder, owner of International Sailing School Marmaris.
Cumhur Gökova was born Aug, 1st 1948 and has both Turkish and Canadian citizenship.
Between 1970 and 1976 he has sailed around the world, and carries the title of first Turk to sail to the North Cape. Second Turk to sail around the world, first Turk to cross the Great Sahara.
He also trained the first Women Racing Team of Turkey and entered many International races with them. This year an all-female crew aboard his Dufour ‘40 Odienne will compete at ARC (Atlantic Rally for Cruisers). The crew consists of all working women between the ages of 29 and 55.
He has successfully completed Yachtmaster Instructor Courses in Canada at CYA.
He became an RYA Yachtmaster and attended Yachtmaster Instructor Courses at RYA England.
He also completed the Yachtmaster Instructor and Examiner Courses in the USA at the INTERNATIONAL YACHTMASTER TRAINING CENTER FLORIDA and opened a large Sailing School in Marmaris Turkey called “International Yachtmaster Training Centre of Turkey”
Cumhur Gökova has worked as a Commodore for MIYC and organized International Races, including the Marmaris Race Week (7th biggest race in the world) and Christmas regatta ( Marmaris- Israel)
He also opened the first Marmaris Sailing Club and worked as a President for many years.
Currently he is teaching in his own school, giving racing and Yachtmaster courses that he enjoys most!
